Bokeh, for those who don't know what it means, refers to the blur or more appropriately the rendition of the out of focus elements. Everybody loves a bit of bokeh, but which lens produces nice looking bokeh? Well, we will be taking a look at various lenses, but this week we will be comparing the Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D and the Canon 50mm f/1.8 II - both are very affordable 50mm lenses, but what's the bokeh like? thumbupHow to Photograph Nude Model | 04 May 10

Although some people find nude photography as rather offensive, many still consider it as an art illustrating the beauty of the naked human body. It is not an easy niche where you just grab the camera and take a shot at unclothed body; otherwise it will appear more like pornography, explicit, or awkward. Careful planning separates artistic nude photography from these.

Here is how to get started with nude photography.

Instructions Below | Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You'll Need:
    * SLR digital camera
    * nude model or subject
    * private location for outdoor and indoor shoot
    * bounce board for outdoor shoot
    * 3 flash strobe heads for indoor shoot
    * umbrellas or soft boxes for indoor shoot
    * light meter

1.
Plan on how you will approach nude photography. Some people would like a spontaneous way by allowing the models to move on their own will. Others prefer a more structured approach where every shot is directed. Either way you choose, you need to prepare how it's going to be done. A well-planned shoot also proves to your model that you are legit if this is your first try at nude photography.

2.
Find a model that will pose for the shoot. Have your portfolio ready to show to your subject to prove you are a legit photographer. It will also help to discuss the extent on what you want to capture and show some visual references of what you want to accomplish.

3.
Find a location that is secure and private especially if you are planning on outdoor shoot. There should be a convenient room to change clothes in between shoots. Make sure that the location is warm enough to avoid goose bumps which can ruin the image. For indoor shoot, it is recommended to have a small heater if the room is not warm.

4.
Use a camera with longer focal lengths like 70-200mm lenses to keep your model comfortable. Since you are taking nude photographs, it is better to give your model as much space as she needs. It is always better to take black & white photos when doing nude photography unless you have a flawless model. Soft light best illuminate your model's body curve which is the whole point of nude photography.

5.
Take classic poses for starter when dealing with model you have never posed before. Create dramatic poses that will exaggerate the shape of your model's body. Background can simply be black or white since the focus is more on the nude body rather than the background. Conventional rules of photography still apply like composition, focus, and story telling.

Art has no boundary.... and so is nude photography. Control the light to increase or decrease dramatic appearance when dealing with nude photography.
